Summary

"The History of the Confederate War, Its Causes and Its Conduct, Volume 2 (of 2)" by George Cary Eggleston is a historical narrative that explores the American Civil War, placing emphasis on how the conflict was waged and analyzing the many battles that took place. This book seeks to clearly explain the reasons behind the war, the different military plans used, and the lasting effects the war had on the country. It looks at things like the fight for freedom for enslaved people, President Lincoln's careful handling of slavery and keeping the country together, and the problems with military leaders during important battles like Fredericksburg and those in the West. The story points out the complicated reasons for the war, such as states' rights and slavery, and discusses important people like Lincoln and General Burnside, especially focusing on his unsuccessful campaign at Fredericksburg. The beginning of the book gets ready for a close look at military plans and political choices that were key in deciding how the war would go, showing both the wins and the big losses for both the North and the South.
