Summary

"The Scape-Goat: A Farce in One Act" by John Poole, is a funny play that pokes fun at love, confusion, and how strict society was about marriage back in old Britain. It tells the story of Charles, who's young and in love, but also has to deal with his tutor, Ignatius Polyglot, watching over him. Charles tells Polyglot he's in love, and Polyglot freaks out about it. Then, Charles says he's already married to Harriet, a dead officer's daughter, but he's keeping it secret from his dad. Things get even more mixed up when Molly, a busybody servant, almost spills Charles's secret. In the end, everything comes out in a hilarious way, making fun of old-fashioned ideas about school, being responsible, and love, and it all ends with everyone forgiving each other and laughing.
