Summary

"The Lady from Nowhere: A Detective Story" by Fergus Hume is a late 1800s mystery that starts with Maria Presk finding her boarder, Miss Ligram, dead in her fancy, yellow room in a suburb of London. The serenity of the night is ripped when screams of "murder" cuts through the air and pulls the local police officer to a shocked and scared Maria Presk. Looking around, the detectives find weird things, like a spread of cards with the ace of spades facing up on Miss Ligram's lap. The tale examines the confusing aftermath of the killing and begins to uncover the secrets of Miss Ligram's life and her rich "Yellow Boudoir," thus getting ready for a complex exploration into her shady past and the hunt for her killer.
