Summary

"The Torrent (Entre Naranjos)" by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez is a story about a young politician named Rafael Brull who comes back to his home in Alcira after living in Madrid. The story probably takes place a long time ago, maybe in the early 1900s. Rafael is struggling because his family, especially his mom, Doña Bernarda, has big plans for him in politics. He feels like he has to live up to their expectations. But Rafael also has his own secret: he's in love with a strange woman from the "Blue House." He visits her secretly, even though he knows it might cause problems with his family and his political career. The story is about Rafael trying to figure out what he really wants and how to balance his family's wishes with his own feelings and passions.
