Summary

"A Little Mother to the Others" by L. T. Meade is a story about the Delaney children—Iris, Apollo, Diana, and Orion—who live in a beautiful garden and are very close to each other and to nature. The siblings, named after mythology figures, enjoy playing and looking after small animals, but things start to change when their mother becomes very sick. After their mother dies, Iris promises to take care of her siblings, but their lives get more complicated when their Aunt Jane comes to stay. Aunt Jane wants to change everything, and the children worry about losing their home and their connection to their mother. The book explores how the children feel about losing their mother, how they stick together as a family, and how they try to hold onto their happy childhood when so much is changing.
