Summary

"Handy Andy: A Tale of Irish Life. Volume 2" by Samuel Lover is a funny story set long ago in Ireland, showing what life was like back then. It follows Handy Andy, a likeable but clumsy helper, as he gets into all sorts of silly situations that tell us about the rules and ways of life at the time. At the start, we see two friends, Dick and Murphy, up to no good at night. They are trying to stop a coach full of voters for the other side in a big election. Their sneaky plans and funny mix-ups lead to Murphy coming up with a plan to mess up the other party's chances. As the story goes on, we meet lots of interesting people, hear local news, and watch playful tricks and political games all mixed together, giving us a funny look at Irish life.

About the Author

Samuel Lover, also known as "Ben Trovato", was an Irish songwriter, composer and novelist, and a portrait painter, chiefly in miniatures. He was the grandfather of Victor Herbert.
