Summary

"A Girl in Spring-Time" by George de Horne Vaizey is a story that starts in a boarding school as the girls are close to their midsummer break as they share their summer plans. The story focuses on Mildred Moore, a sharp and tough girl, excited to spend the holidays with her family, but is crushingly disappointed because she will be seperated. The story shows the fun and the close ties that the girls have with each other as they talk about their plans. As they plan their picnics and outings, the main focus goes to Mildred, who finds out that her brother has scarlet fever, which means that she can't go home for the holidays. The story shows how sad and lonely she is, but also the close relationship she has with her schoolmistress, Miss Margaret, who stands by her. These opening chapters of the story are filled with emotion: the challenges of growing up, but also her yearning for home and family
