Jupiter Lights

"Jupiter Lights" by Constance Fenimore Woolson, introduces Miss Eve Bruce, an American woman coming back from England, making a grand journey home. The steamboat she's traveling on with her maid, Meadows, gets stuck, kicking off a story about different social classes and clashes between cultures, plus what goes on in families. Eve meets her sister-in-law, Cicely, and the book shows how uneasy they are around each other, mainly because of a child named Jack, who brings up Eve's hidden feelings. The author creates a world that's pretty but also has tough family problems brewing beneath the surface.
