"Louisiana" by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a story where we meet Olivia Ferrol, a visitor to Oakvale Springs, and Louisiana, a shy young girl from a much different background. The book explores what happens when these two worlds collide. Olivia, feeling like an outsider herself, becomes fascinated by Louisiana's innocence and takes her under her wing to better understand the young girl, and people in general. The novel looks at how Louisiana deals with trying to fit into a sophisticated society. The story shows the contrasts between Louisiana’s simple past and the exciting, but also confusing, new life she is stepping into for the first time with Olivia’s help.
