Summary

"The White People" by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a tale about Ysobel, a young heiress growing up in the magical Muircarrie Castle in Scotland, raised by relatives after being orphaned at birth. Ysobel has an unusual upbringing filled with mystery and isolation. Her home is filled with lore and is far from town like one would see anywhere else, leading to her connecting with the spirits on the moor, in particular, a girl assumed to be an ethereal being from her family's history. Her friendship with this spirit, and the overall mysticism of the moor guides the girl on a journey, as she comes to realize the reality of life, death, and the haunting beauty of her surroundings.
