The Count's Millions

"The Count's Millions" by Emile Gaboriau is a story set in Paris, exploring the life of Count de Chalusse and the puzzle surrounding his fortune after a stroke leaves him helpless. The story opens by introducing characters like Marguerite, the count's lovely ward, and the gossiping servants of the household, as the count is brought home unconscious one stormy evening. All this builds the foundation for a story thick with mystery, hidden family secrets, and a battle over a large inheritance.
