Summary

"Max Carrados" by Ernest Bramah is a set of clever detective stories from the early 1900s. The main character, Max Carrados, is a remarkable blind detective who solves mysteries using his sharp senses and intelligence. The stories focus on Carrados figuring out difficult crimes, surprising criminals and doubters with his special ability to notice things others miss. In the first story, a man named Mr. Carlyle asks Carrados for help with an old coin that might be fake, which could be part of a crime. We learn that Carrados is very good at seeing details without actually seeing them, as shown through his friendly but professional talks with Carlyle. Carrados uses a careful method to understand the case, getting ready for a string of puzzling mysteries that will test his skills and show off the author's smart storytelling.
