Summary

"The Home in the Valley" by Emilie Flygare-Carlén, is a tale set in the 1800s that centers on Nanna, a lovely young woman from a poor family in a pretty valley close to Lake Wenner. Her story looks at topics like love, dreams, and how different life can be for the rich and the poor, when her life crosses paths with the rich people who live on the Almvik estate. Nanna, raised by her father and sister-in-law, Magde, feels sad and left out because she isn't wealthy. The readers soon see her desire to connect with others, and when she meets a stranger, her life starts to change. The first few parts of the novel show the different ways of life between Nanna, her family, and the people of Almvik, which sets the stage for a dramatic story which includes class differences, personal goals, and complicated feelings.
