Summary

"Man and Wife" by Wilkie Collins is a book that takes place in the 1800s which shows us what happens when love gets twisted by secrets and lies. It’s about characters getting tangled up in marriage troubles because of what society expects and how people make decisions. The book starts with two girls splitting up on a boat to different countries. A long time later, one of the girls grows up and gets ready to see her mom again. At a fancy dinner, we meet more people, and it's obvious not everyone is happy. The story quickly turns into a big drama when a secret about a marriage comes out, making characters lives a roller coaster of feelings and problems.

About the Author

William Wilkie Collins was an English novelist and playwright known especially for The Woman in White (1859), a mystery novel and early sensation novel, and for The Moonstone (1868), which established many of the ground rules of the modern detective novel and is also perhaps the earliest clear example of the police procedural genre.
