Summary

"Tales from the German. Volume II." by C. F. van der Velde is a set of stories translated from German that are set in the 1600s. The history is set around the Thirty Years War and the Reformation. The central idea of all of the stories is about faith, difficult times, and feelings shown by people like Katharine, a mom who loves her family, and Oswald Dorn, a book-keeper, during the rough parts of history. At the start of the book, its Christmas Eve in 1628 in Schweidnitz, and it talks about Katharine getting ready for the holidays with her family. The bad thing is that there is religious violence on the rise. She ends up talking to Oswald Dorn, and they both are worried about how bad the religious stuff has gotten around them. As the story keeps going, it gets more intense because there are troops coming to their city, revealing how there's going to be conflict, personal stuff, and trying to keep faith and hope alive when bad stuff happens.
