"Les liaisons dangereuses, volume 1" by Choderlos de Laclos is the story of cunning aristocrats using seduction and trickery as weapons to control those around them. Set in a world of high society in the late 1700s, the story opens by introducing Cécile, an innocent girl leaving convent life behind to face an arranged marriage. Meanwhile, The Marquise de Merteuil starts setting up her schemes. The Marquise plans to use the Vicomte de Valmont which causes secrets and lies begin to build up, showing readers a dangerous game of power and desire. Told through letters, which the author says is for cautionary reasons, the story is full of wicked plots and moral questions to think about.
