Summary

"Jack in the Forecastle; or, Incidents in the Early Life of Hawser Martingale" by John Sherburne Sleeper tells the story of a young man named Hawser Martingale as he chases his dreams of sailing the open seas during the 1800s. After losing his parents, Hawser decides to become a sailor, despite not knowing much about ships or the ocean.
