Summary

"Bleedback" by Winston K. Marks is a mid-20th century science fiction story about a toy that causes national chaos. The "Mystery i-Gun," meant to make metal disappear, instead makes it reappear unexpectedly, injuring people and inciting panic. A police lieutenant investigates the strange injury of a mathematician and inventor whose brother rushes his creation to market, and soon the lieutenant connects the toy with the mysterious wounds appearing across the country. The lieutenant races to find a solution before a deadly crisis unfolds, learning the scary and ridiculous side effects of unchecked science and humanity's dependence on technology.
