Summary

"Recollections of a Policeman" by William Russell is a series of exciting stories about a London detective named Thomas Waters in the 1800s. Waters, an inspector, works hard to solve crimes in both the roughest parts of the city and among the wealthy. One of his first big cases involves a group of clever tricksters and a young man, Charles Merton, who is struggling with gambling and is being taken advantage of by a dishonest man named Sandford. Waters has to untangle the gang’s crimes and try to rescue Merton from losing everything, which makes his job both personal and professional as he navigates the challenges of upholding the law.
