Summary

"Maid Marian" by Thomas Love Peacock is a historical fiction set in medieval England, retelling the famous story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian with a blend of romance, adventure, and calls for social justice. Beginning with a disrupted wedding, the story follows the Earl of Huntingdon, branded a traitor, and the noble Matilda Fitzwater, whose bond is tested by conflict and political intrigue. The Earl’s outlaw status leads to a broader exploration of the relationships among nobles and clergy, offering social commentary through humor. Matilda’s character gains depth as she navigates societal expectations, becoming an strong character in her own right, rather than a typical damsel.
