Summary

"Philosophy in Sport Made Science in Earnest" by John Ayrton Paris is a book from the 1800s that explains the basics of science using games and fun activities. The story begins with a boy named Tom Seymour coming home from school, ready to relax with his family at Overton Lodge. His dad, Mr. Seymour, has a plan to teach Tom all about natural philosophy, but he wants to do it with toys to keep things interesting. At first, the local Vicar, Mr. Twaddleton, thinks it's silly to teach young kids philosophy, but he decides to join in on the fun anyway. Together, they use toys to learn about science in a way that's both funny and educational, turning playtime into a learning experience for everyone.
