Summary

In this volume a nobleman named Cinq Mars is trying to balance his love for Marie de Mantua against the very powerful, and villainous, Cardinal Richelieu. Cinq Mars is supported by his friend De Thou, who worries that fighting Richelieu could bring turmoil to the kingdom. Cinq Mars believes that by conspiring against the king, he can have Marie and win. As the pressure builds, the two friends are forced to make hard choices that will change their friendship and the fate of France forever.

Alfred Victor, Comte de Vigny was a French poet and early French Romanticist. He also produced novels, plays, and translations of Shakespeare.
