Summary

"The Missouri Persecutions" by B. H. (Brigham Henry) Roberts is a historical narrative that chronicles the trials of the early Latter-day Saints in Missouri and Illinois between 1830 and 1838. The book strives to set the record straight and document the severe persecution endured by these religious followers, countering incorrect information about their forced departure from those states. The author's introduction explains his goal of preserving the accurate history of these persecutions for future generations of Latter-day Saints, emphasizing the significance of understanding the past to honor the sacrifices made by their predecessors and to strengthen the faith of generations to come.

About the Author

Brigham Henry Roberts was a historian, politician, and leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He edited the seven-volume History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and independently wrote the six-volume Comprehensive History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Roberts also wrote Studies of the Book of Mormon—published posthumously—which discussed the validity of the Book of Mormon as an ancient record. Roberts was denied a seat as a member of United States Congress because of his practice of polygamy.
