Summary

"Among the Tibetans" by Isabella L. Bird is an adventurous travel story from the 1800s. It starts with the author's trip through the beautiful land of Kashmir, then goes to Lesser Tibet, where she saw different people's cultures and the hard parts of traveling there. At first, Bird talks about starting her trip in Kashmir, describing its beauty and some problems. She leaves Srinagar with her horse, Gyalpo, and a guard named Usman Shah, who sometimes makes things difficult. As Bird travels into Lesser Tibet, she shows the reader amazing views of mountains and valleys, what life is like for people who live there, and how she starts to understand the interesting Tibetan culture. The story shows not only the physical places but also the deep culture and spirituality that she will discover as her adventure continues.
