Summary

"Prince Zilah — Volume 1" by Jules Claretie is a historical romance set in the late 1800s that tells the story of Hungarian Prince Andras Zilah and his upcoming marriage to Marsa Laszlo, a woman with a mysterious past. It begins with an extravagant engagement party on a boat in Paris with nobles and leaders from many nations. Even in a time of celebration the Prince thinks deeply about his family, his patriotism, and the future. His focus is on Marsa, his soon to be wife. The book looks at love, who people are, and cultural history, and even starts to look at the struggles for Hungary to be its own nation. The story also hints at problems to come, especially because of the feelings Marsa brings out in the Prince's good friend Michel.
