Summary

Chronicles (1 of 6): The Historie of England (2 of 8) by Raphael Holinshed is a sweeping historical narrative that starts with the mythical origins of England. Narrated during the Elizabethan era, the book explores the early rulers of Britain who descend from Brute, a Trojan exiled for a tragic crime. Brute arrives in Britain with his followers, battles giants like Gogmagog, and founds the city of Troinouant. This solidifies his legacy as he divides the land among his sons and establishes the foundation for future rulers. This tale weaves themes of conquest, kinship, trials of leadership, and monarchy. It ends with the reign of Brute's heirs and the division of England, leading to constant conflict and historical change.
