Summary

"The Seven Curses of London" by James Greenwood is a critical look at the hardships suffered by London's poor during the late 1800s. It explores the lives of abandoned children, criminals, and beggars, showing how they struggle to survive in a city that often ignores them. The book starts by revealing the shocking number of children living in poverty, left to fend for themselves on the streets. Greenwood argues that society is failing to protect these young people, and that poverty and a decline in moral values are to blame. Through powerful stories and detailed observations, the book exposes the deep-seated problems within London, inviting readers to confront the harsh realities of urban life and consider the systemic issues that perpetuate these "curses", as it pushes toward revealing the city's hidden darkness.
