Summary

"The Day of Wrath" by Mór Jókai is a story set in a troubled time in Hungary, focusing on deep sadness and how unfairness affects people. It tells about a creepy old woman who the villagers call the "death-bird." She predicts bad things will happen, highlighting troubles both inside people and in the world around them. The book starts in a gloomy village, showing empty houses that represent the village's misfortunes. Then there’s Magdolna, the "death-bird," who scares everyone because she can see deaths and disasters before they occur. As signs of coming trouble appear, the villagers struggle with old beliefs and their own hopelessness. This builds a world guided by feelings more than logic, suggesting difficult times for the village and its people.
