"Eyes Like the Sea" by Mór Jókai is a story from the late 1800s about a young man and his powerful feelings for a girl called Bessy. Their adventure starts at a dance lesson with Monsieur Galifard, where the main character, around sixteen, figures out how he feels about Bessy. As they dance, the reader can feel the mix of young love, dreams of the future, and trying to find their place under the expectations of social status and personal hope.

His romantic novels became widely popular among the elite of Victorian England, where he was often compared to Charles Dickens by the press.
