Summary

"Thackeray" by Anthony Trollope is a late 19th-century biography that examines the life of author William Makepeace Thackeray as part of the "English Men of Letters" series; it looks into his early years, education, and the hard times he faced as he created a name for himself as an author. Trollope explains why a full story of Thackeray's life was never written, because Thackeray did not like when biographers flattered him. Because of this, his family kept his life story private. Trollope also shows how Thackeray's personal life impacted his work, and what his contributions to literature were.
