The Lash

"The Lash" by Olin L. Lyman is an early 20th-century drama unfolding within the dark underbelly of city politics, where corruption thrives and journalism becomes a dangerous game. The story introduces us to John Shaughnessy, a political manipulator deeply embedded in the system, contrasted by Micky O'Byrn, an aspiring reporter determined to make his mark. The narrative opens with a high-stakes gathering of insiders, setting the stage for a city on the brink. As Micky navigates smoky bars and treacherous streets, his ambition clashes with the moral compromises he has to make to survive in this cutthroat world. The encounter offers the reader a front-row seat to the intricate dance between power and the press, where the pursuit of truth comes at a steep price.
