Summary

"Downstream" by Sigfrid Siwertz is a story from the early 1900s that looks at what it's like to be a kid in a family dealing with tough times, all happening at their old, run-down home, Selambshof. We mainly follow Peter and Hedvig as they try to understand their fears and the problems coming from their family's history. Right from the start, things are scary and confusing for them, especially after a strange and troubling night with their sick mother. An old storyteller named Kristin tells spooky stories about their family, pulling the kids deeper into a world of fear and old beliefs. As the story goes on, the kids face bigger issues like their mother’s sickness and the heavy weight of their family's past, showing us how they deal with loss and try to survive.
