Summary

"Waterloo: A Sequel to The Conscript of 1813" by Erckmann-Chatrian is a story set after the Battle of Waterloo, looking at the lives of regular soldiers and people as France changes after Napoleon lost power. Our main guy, Joseph, is super happy to be back home and wants to marry Catherine, but he has to deal with the government first. The town is excited about the new king, Louis XVIII, but some people miss Napoleon. Joseph is caught between wanting a normal life and the big changes happening in the country as he struggles with love and waiting for permission to start his new life.

About the Author

Erckmann-Chatrian was the name used by French authors Émile Erckmann (1822–1899) and Alexandre Chatrian (1826–1890), nearly all of whose works were jointly written.
