Summary

"Sound" by John Tyndall is a scientific exploration into the world of acoustics. It breaks down how sound travels, the science behind sound waves, and how sound interacts with different things. The book starts by teaching the basic ideas of acoustics, like how important our nerves are for hearing sound. Tyndall uses experiments to show how sound waves act in different situations, like vacuums and different gases. He also talks about how air helps sound move, and how temperature and pressure change the way we hear sound, setting the stage for a more complete understanding.

About the Author

John Tyndall (; 2 August 1820 – 4 December 1893) was an Irish physicist and chemist. His scientific fame arose in the 1850s from his study of diamagnetism. Later he made discoveries in the realms of infrared radiation and the physical properties of air, proving the connection between atmospheric CO2 and what is now known as the greenhouse effect in 1859.
