Jack Buntline

"Jack Buntline" by William Henry Giles Kingston is an adventure story set in the mid-1800s. The book tells about Jack Buntline going from a poor orphan escaping a terrible workhouse to facing dangerous storms and rough people as a sailor. It shows how tough life was for sailors back then. Jack discovers that even when things are hard, being kind and faithful can help him grow as a person. At the beginning, the book makes you think about how sailors can be seen as brave heroes, but their lives were actually very hard and sometimes cruel.
