Summary

"The Admiral's Daughter" by Margaret Stuart Lane is a historical story that takes place in England after the Restoration, probably written in the early 1900s. We meet Marion, the admiral's daughter, in a pretty village in the West Country. Spring is arriving, and her childhood friend Roger Trevannion is feeling trapped by his farm, even though he dreams of sailing. He and Marion discuss their dreams and worries, especially the rising political problems of the Monmouth Rebellion. Marion’s about to visit her Aunt Constance in London, which makes her excited but nervous to leave her home, while Roger fears he's not good enough for her and worries that she’ll leave him behind. This sets up a story full of adventure, friendship, and doing what's right during a time of change.
