Summary

"The Works of the Right Honourable Edmund Burke, Vol. 01 (of 12)" by Edmund Burke is a collection of essays and letters that critically examines government, society, and human behavior in the late 1700s. It considers the problems from human-made societal structures, as well as a desire for a return to natural society. An editor's note reveals Burke’s initial unwillingness to publish these writings. The first essay, "A Vindication of Natural Society," suggests societies, though created by people, can result in oppression and tyranny. Throughout the volume, historical evidence of civil unrest and warfare demonstrate negative results of political systems and set a precedent for discussing human nature, governance, and fundamental flaws in political order.
