Summary

"Letters of Pliny" by Pliny the Younger, is a set of personal letters from the 2nd century AD, giving us a glimpse into the world of a Roman gentleman. The letters cover a wide range of topics, from politics and books to philosophy and major events, showing us a detailed image of Roman society and culture. Starting with a letter to Septitius, Pliny talks about putting his letters together for publication, with a lighthearted tone. He shares his thoughts on friendship, death, and the search for wisdom, while also joking about himself. These first letters give hints about his relationships and the difficult political situation of the time, attracting readers with both historical facts and deep thoughts about what it means to be human.
