Summary

"Children of the Frost" by Jack London is a compilation of stories that takes place in the brutal Arctic territory. It illustrates the trials and traditions of the local people and the adventures of outsiders coming into their world. It starts with Avery Van Brunt, a geology professor leading an expedition in the wild. He finds a village of Eskimos while thinking about his journey and those that travel with him. The villagers react to Van Brunt with a blend of wonder and distrust, which suggests complicated relationships between the locals and newcomers. When Van Brunt meets John Fairfax, a white man who has become part of the village for five years, the main ideas of who we are, where we belong, and when cultures collide become clear, setting the scene to go further into how the characters connect to both the severe land and to one another.
