Summary

"The Caxtons: A Family Picture — Volume 07" by Edward Bulwer Lytton is a story set in the nineteenth century that follows the Caxton family and their interactions with British society. The main character, Pisistratus Caxton, tries to achieve his goals as a student, but also has to deal with his family, especially his father and people like Sir Sedley Beaudesert and Fanny Trevanion. The story shows how hard it is to balance being a scholar with the social lives of others. Pisistratus likes Fanny a lot, but she is hard to get to know. Also, Mr. Caxton is trying to be a writer, and Uncle Jack affects the family's goals. The main idea is about wanting to do what you want versus doing what society expects of you, and the story shows how love, ambition, and family all fit together in British society back then.
