Summary

"Alice, or the Mysteries — Book 02" by Baron Edward Bulwer Lytton is a story woven in the early to mid-1800s that looks closely at finding love and what was ‘normal’ as people grew into themselves. At the heart of the story is Evelyn Cameron, a rich young woman, and Ernest Maltravers, a man no one really seems to know that well. Evelyn is going to marry Lord Vargrave, but she has to figure out what she wants and what everyone else wants for her. Evelyn and Maltravers talk a lot and start to like each other, but being in different social classes could become a big problem for them. The story shows how people tried to find their own way in a world that tells them how to act and who to love.
