Summary

"Lady Bountiful" by George A. Birmingham is a lighthearted tale set in the west of Ireland that turns social norms upside down. It centers around Bridie Malone, once a cook, whose life takes a dramatic turn when she marries the aging Sir Tony Corless. Thrust into the role of Lady Corless, she shakes up the traditional ways with her practical approach and redefines the social structure of her village. From managing Castle Affey to cleverly boosting the local economy by employing her relatives and utilizing government schemes, she brings unexpected prosperity to her community. As Lady Corless navigates class and societal expectations, her actions transform her into a central figure, all while her husband lives a life free of responsibilities due to her capable management.
