Summary

"The Mad Planet" by Murray Leinster is a science fiction adventure set thirty thousand years in the future after the collapse of civilization thrusts humanity into a savage existence. A young man named Burl struggles to survive in an overgrown and hostile world ruled by massive fungi and insects due to dangerous atmospheric conditions. As Burl explores the strange wilderness of towering mushrooms and mold while ignorant to critical tools and fire, he begins a journey to re-establish his lost intellect for survival. Driven by the dangers and the need to find food, he confronts giant insects and navigates treacherous landscapes. Burl's use of a spear for hunting marks the start of his transformation, but when pursued by an army of ants, the peril of his surroundings is emphasized.
