Summary

"Ariosto, Shakespeare and Corneille" by Benedetto Croce is a critical exploration of three literary giants, diving into the heart of what makes their writing exceptional. Beginning with an introduction explaining the importance of truly experiencing art, the book journeys into the poetic world of Ludovico Ariosto, particularly his famous "Orlando Furioso", as it contemplates the nuances of interpretation and the beauty of human sentiment expressed through verse. The analysis pushes beyond simple enjoyment, searching for a deeper understanding of how art, feeling, and thought intertwine. The goal is to show readers that poetry is more than just words, but a blend of instinct and intellect.
