Summary

"Anything Once" by Isabel Ostrander is a story about how two people meet by chance and find strength in facing life's tough parts together. It starts when Lou, a brave young girl, finds a hurt young man by the road. As she nurses him back to health, she tells him about her troubled past. Even though they come from different places, they connect and start a journey across the countryside. The young man, named James, is in a hurry to get to New York, but he feels he must look after Lou. She sees him as brave and independent. As they travel, their friendship grows, and they both learn more about themselves as they head toward what they're meant to do.
