Bertha Weisser's wish : $b A Christmas story

"Bertha Weisser's Wish: A Christmas Story" by Mary L. Bissell is a tale of a young German girl named Bertha, who lives in poverty in New York City during the mid-1800s, doing everything she can to take care of her younger siblings after their parents pass away. As Christmas nears, Bertha dreams of having a magical Christmas tree for her family, even though they have very little. The story begins by introducing Bertha and her hard life. Bertha lives in a small, cramped attic and works hard by finding rags and doing small jobs to provide for her siblings. Despite her family's situation, Bertha's greatest wish is for a Christmas tree, something none of them have ever had and she dreams of a better life through hope, generosity, and community.
