Summary

"Iole" by Robert W. Chambers is a story about Clarence Guilford, a poet who lives a modest life with his eight daughters, all surrounded by nature. The book shows the differences between the rich and the poor, and it talks about art and love. Early on, a station-agent and a traveler named Briggs talk about Guilford's life. They reveal how he became a famous writer, but then lost his money, and now he might lose his home. George Wayne is sent to help Guilford with his money problems. As Wayne travels to meet the poet, he learns about Guilford's interesting life and his daughters’ unique way of living, suggesting problems about love, duty, and dealing with the changes in the world.
