Summary

"The Absurd ABC" by Walter Crane is a fun alphabet book from the late 1800s that introduces young readers to their ABCs through funny pictures and rhymes. The book takes a creative approach to teaching the alphabet by pairing each letter with silly situations and characters. From an apple representing "A" to a zany creature for "Z," the pages are filled with playful verses and familiar characters from kids' stories, such as a baby and Humpty Dumpty. Each letter is brought to life with rhythmic writing that makes learning the alphabet entertaining.

About the Author

Walter Crane was an English artist and book illustrator. He is considered to be the most influential, and among the most prolific, children's book creators of his generation and, along with Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway, one of the strongest contributors to the child's nursery motif that the genre of English children's illustrated literature would exhibit in its developmental stages in the later 19th century.
