Summary

"Chants for the Boer" by Joaquin Miller is a book of poems from the early 1900s that focuses on the Boer people's fight during the Anglo-Boer War. Miller's poems show he really cares about the Boers and sees their struggles as similar to other unfair situations in history. His work features the concepts of freedom, fighting, and the power of empires, expressing strong feelings about the battles of the Boer farmers against the British. He praises people such as Paul Kruger and speaks of loyalty and fighting for what's right, and makes the case that the Boer effort is just while criticizing the British Empire. In doing so it is a commentary that encourages people to come together in support of freedom.
