"The Prince of the House of David" by J. H. Ingraham is an old-fashioned story that takes place in Jerusalem a long time ago. It's about the Jewish people waiting for their Messiah. A Jewish girl named Adina journeys from Alexandria to Jerusalem. She writes letters to her father, telling him all about what she sees and feels. She's really impressed by Jerusalem and the Temple. Adina writes about the sacrifices in the Temple, the not-so-good priests, and John the Baptist, who's getting everyone's attention by calling for people to change their ways. As she finds out about John's predictions about the Messiah who is coming, she wants to know more and hopes that a savior from God appears, all while the Romans are in charge and there's a lot of cultural drama going on in Jerusalem. This part sets the stage for Adina's changing beliefs and the bigger story of Christ's arrival.
